Dr. Rajiv Y. Chandawarkar,
Plastic Surgeon


Rajiv Y. Chandawarkar, M.D., is a plastic surgeon who is fellowship trained in cancer reconstructive surgery and also has expertise in all facets of cosmetic plastic surgery.

Dr. Chandawarkar sees patients at the UConn Cancer Center, and a general plastic surgery office in Dowling South. At the Cancer Center, he joins a multidisciplinary team of experts and offers state-of-the-art reconstructive services for patients with breast cancer, head and neck cancers, GI cancers and more. Through his plastic surgery practice, he offers patients a complete range of aesthetic surgical procedures including facial plastic surgery, tummy tucks, breast lifts, breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction and more.

Dr. Chandawarkar joins the Health Center from the prestigious M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas, in Houston, where he completed fellowship training in Cancer Reconstruction and Microvascular Surgery in the Department of Plastic Surgery.

Along with Dr. Chandawarkar's strong background in surgery, he is also an accomplished researcher in the areas of cancer, immunology and tissue repair. He is widely published in scholarly journals, holds 17 primary patents and was recently appointed to serve on the Owen Wangensteen Forum for tissue repair for the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Chandawarkar received a master of surgery degree from the University of Bombay in India and completed post-graduate training in surgery and surgical oncology in India and Japan. In addition, he completed a research fellowship in the head and neck service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and a research fellowship in cancer immunology at Fordham University.

Prior to his training at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Chandawarkar completed a general surgery residency at Akron General Medical Center in Ohio and a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Summa Health System and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, also in Akron.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Chandawarkar will continue his research endeavors in tissue repair using heat shock proteins.
