The Center for Immunotherapy of Cancer and Infectious Diseases (CICID) at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine was established in 1997 under the leadership of Professor Pramod Srivastava. The CICID is a forum for research into basic mechanisms of immune response, and its application to treatment of cancers, and infectious and autoimmune diseases. The CICID faculty address fundamental questions including hematopoiesis, NK cell function, T cell priming, induction of tolerance, innate immunity, antigen processing and presentation, among others.
In addition, the CICID is home to the field of the role of heat shock proteins in immune response, a role that is now being clinically tested for its utility against cancer and infectious diseases. The CICID serves as an educational focus for graduate and post-doctoral students, and clinical residents and fellows interested in immunology.
